PORTLAND, OR – Local man David Ono has sent another email reminding his coworkers about Ono’s band’s upcoming show.
“Hey everyone! Just want to remind you my band is playing at JoJo’s Crab Shack and Entertainment Emporium this Thursday at 11pm! We are the 6th band (out of 6) but it should be fun! Hope you can make it! Oh, and there is a $25 cover,” stated Ono in the email. “If you can’t make it, it’s totally cool, but it would be great to see some familiar faces in the crowd!”
The reminder marks the third email Ono has sent about the upcoming show.
“I like (Ono), he’s a good guy and all but… I didn’t need a reminder email,” said Ono’s coworker, Jenna Tegucho. “I’ve never really talked to him about music, and I’ve never expressed interest in seeing his band… So… I kinda feel bad but I’m definitely not going. No. Especially since it’s on a Thursday at 11pm. I’m usually in bed by about 8, so, no I won’t be going. And he can probably leave me off these emails going forward. Can you tell him that for me?”
Overall, Ono has sent 25 emails in the past three years informing his coworkers about his band’s upcoming shows.
“I guess it’s interesting that (Ono) is in a band since he’s 50 something. Right?” said Ono’s coworker, Kyle Watson. “I’m not sure about the tight pants and make up he has on in the pictures he sends with the email – not because I’m against those things but just because… he’s 50. But to answer your question, no, I’m not going to the show. It’s a fuckin’ Thursday! We all have to work the next day. I’m too old for that kinda thing.”
Although Ono has sent a reminder email to more than 20 of his coworkers, he doesn’t expect very many to attend his band’s upcoming show.
“I know it’s hard to go out on a Thursday but it should still be fun!” said Ono. “My band is a mix of the Talking Heads, and Green Day with a little bit of Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon mixed in with a dusting of The Moody Blues and early Altar Bridge. You should come check us out. What’s your email address? I’ll add you to the email list.”
Despite his efforts to draw in his coworkers, Ono has felt in the past that a lot of them just say they will be there despite the fact that they actually have no intention to actually go.
“Really, I just want people to go out and enjoy the local music scene,” said Ono. “I mean, sure, go out and see Thirty Seconds to Mars or any other big time, touring band, but then also come out and see The Cunt Punch Brigade at Poe’s Bar and Pool Hall on a Tuesday night. Is it really going to hurt to come out and see a show with an emo band, a math rock band, a psych rock band, a garage funk punk band, another math rock band, and a 19-year-old wanna be rapper? No, it won’t.”
